Issues with Seagate - and my opinion of Windows 8
I don't know that this is a great big coincidence - or if they've got some serious issues. My Brother had an external Seagate HD take a dump on him a couple of months ago. To their credit, Seagate replaced it - no hassle. Then last week I get a call from my parents saying their computer won't work. Turns out the Seagate I put in their PC when I built it took the turd plunge as well. Now... I am usually a Western Digital only guy - and the Seagate I used on my Parents PC was part of a bundle I bought from Tiger Direct. Also - in a pinch I bought a Seagate for my own PC late one night at Wally World because my wife needed the computer for work the next morning. Guess what just started showing signs of death LAST NIGHT? The S.M.A.R.T. quit working last night, and it had a crap ton of bad sectors that CHKDSK repaired. GRRRR!
OK, enough on the Seagate rant. I just put a WD Black into my Parents PC and installed Windows 8 Professional. This is my first turn around the block with Windows 8, and I must say - it loaded even faster than Windows 7 has on the computers I've installed it on. But..... but.... WTF Microsoft? What an absolute PITA just to shut the damn thing off. I honestly can't even stand the layout. I toyed around with it for about 30 minutes and shut it off. Every time I deal with Vista/7/8, I get back on my own PC and have open arms for my old fling - XP. There is nothing XP has not been able to do for me as of yet, so I will continue my courtship until it proves otherwise. Long live Windows XP! I honestly went into Windows 8 thinking "I've got to have an open mind about this, it is the future". I didn't last 10 minutes before the disgust set in. Microsoft has about cured me of buying any more of their products. I will probably do the Google PC deal next. |

Seagate is one of the cheaper, less quality brands. Personally, I use Maxtor, they are one of the best...

I have used 7 a fair amount at work. It has plenty of quirks. A couple of the PC's will randomly get a white box that appears on the desktop that requires a reboot to clear. Not much of a fan yet.
