New 3.2 Powerstroke 5 cylinder debuting in 2014

I realize this is a passenger van. But this really is some great news for Ford fans. As an option, Ford is equipping the Ford Transit with a 5 cylinder 3.2 Liter Powerstroke Turbo Diesel. It is said to be one of Ford's eight vehicles capable of 40+ mpg's for the 2014 model year. Usually, 40mpg's means it would be a slouch and gutless. This thing churns out 197 horsepower and 347 lb.-ft. of torque in the European models. Very impressive in my personal opinion.

Hopefully we will see this option added to the F150 line.

I think the ecoboost in the f series would be too close from a selling point. But I would love to get my hands on one for a swap in one of my trucks...

197 horsepower and 347 lb.-ft. of torque. That's a good amount of torque considering you get 40 mpg.

I agree. I've never owned a diesel - but that could change with numbers like that.

And that's completely in stock form. With a free flowing intake, exhaust, and tune, that thing could easily see 500 ft lbs torque...

Indeed. In stock form, it has very close torque numbers to the 95 7.3 PSD, which was more than twice it's size. IIRC, that was rated at 425 lb.-ft. of torque.

It would be funny a few years from now we'll be posting videos of the Transit doing 11's down the track.

It would closely resemble the funnycar bus doing a wheelie down the track!
